Pokemon x and y 3D in overworld glitch

I was playing pokemon x and was in the frost cavern shiny horde hunting. I got a little bored of it so, to distract myself, i tried to play the game in 3D. It didn't work during the battle. At first i thought my 3Ds was busted but then the overworld loaded in 3D. No idea what caused this.
